2013-12-08 DISCUSSIONS ABOUT BUSINESS AT VILNIUS INNOVATION FORUM: FROM STARTUPS TO CLUSTERS

 

More than 600 participants discussed innovation importance for the entire Europe’s economy during the first Vilnius Innovation Forum ‘Innovation draft’ on December 4-6, organised by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania along with the Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology (MITA). Significance of companies’ clusterization was highlighted, problem of science and technology parks was disputed, measuring innovation in small regions was considered, and importance of private and public sector partnership for innovation promotion was reviewed at the sessions of the forum.

2013-12-06 DECLARATION OF VILNIUS INNOVATION FORUM: MAIN PRINCIPLES FOR SHAPING EUROPEAN INNOVATION POLICY

The participants of the first Vilnius Innovation Forum 2013 “Innovation Drift” have agreed upon the declaration concluding 10 main principles for shaping European innovation policy.

 

The declaration emphasises the importance that Member States continue to increase investments in research and innovation. Europe will never be able to compete, and continue to be an attractive partner for research and innovation, unless our investments are at par with the most innovative countries around the world, the declaration states. European countries have to continue to put joint efforts in creating a common European Innovation Ecosystem. Investment, both public and private, in research and innovation fuels productivity and growth and is a key for job creation. The declaration will be delivered to European Commission.

2013-12-05 VILNIUS INNOVATION FORUM: ECONOMY BASED ECO INNOVATIONS

On the second day of the Vilnius Innovation Forum Innovation Drift, the participants mostly focus on eco-innovation. Discussions and presentations on the topic are given by representatives of the European Commission, international businesses and non-governmental organizations.

 

Peter Boyd, the key speaker of the second day of the forum, a fellow of Sir Richard Branson, the COO of the Carbon War Room organisation, fighting climate change, emphasized that eco-innovation is a challenge, however, there are opportunities for that in every business sector. ‘There are many profitable opportunities for eco decisions’, said Mr. Boyd. He introduced his organization’s projects aimed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and save natural resources on the global scale.

2013-12-04 HORIZON 2020, THE LARGEST EU RESEARCH AND INNOVATION PROGRAMME, LAUNCHED IN VILNIUS INNOVATION FORUM

The largest European Union research and innovation programme Horizon 2020 was presented to participants of the ongoing first Innovation Forum Innovation Drift, taking place in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius; the budget of the programme for 2014-2020 period is expected to reach approximately EUR 80 billion. During the forum, which brought together over 600 business and science representatives, special attention was paid to Horizon 2020 funding opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses.

2013-12-04 THE FIRST INNOVATION FORUM LAUNCHED IN CAPITAL CITY VILNIUS

Today, 4 December, the first Vilnius Innovation Forum (Innovation Drift), organized by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania and the Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology (MITA) has been launched; for two days more than 600 participants will discuss the importance of innovation in Europe's economy. The discussions will be supplemented by science and technology exhibition, and during the third day of the Forum, the participants will visit the most innovative Lithuanian companies.

On 4 December, Wednesday, at 10:30, the press conference of the first Vilnius Innovation Forum ‘Innovation Drift’ will take place in the Sky bar of Radisson Blu Hotel Lietuva (Vilnius, Lithuania). Minister of Economy Evaldas Gustas, MITA Director Arūnas Karlonas and Inventor of the World Wide Web, keynote speaker of the Forum Timothy John Berners-Lee will participate in the press conference. The main issues of the Vilnius Innovation Forum will be introduced during the press conference.

2013-12-03 Science and technology exhibition: from a bicycle motor to space satellites

From electric bicycle motor to space satellites – such exhibits will be welcoming the visitors of the exhibition of science and technology of the Vilnius Innovation Forum ‘Innovation Drift’ hosted by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania and the Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology (MITA). The exhibition will take place on 4-5 December and will be open for all residents and guests of Vilnius free of charge.

2013-12-01 Vilnius Innovation Forum will discuss the role of innovations in the European economy

On 4 December, Wednesday, the first Vilnius Innovation Forum ‘Innovation Drift’ hosted by the Ministry of Economy and the Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology (MITA) begins with the participation of the Inventor of the World Wide Web Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee. Business and science innovation leaders from different countries of Europe will share their insights on the significance of innovations for the pan-European economy. HORIZON 2020, the largest research & innovation program, the main funding instrument in Europe, will be presented at Vilnius Innovation Forum 2013 “Innovation Drift”.

2013-10-10 Inventor of World Wide Web is coming to Vilnius Innovation Forum 

On 4-6 December 2013 the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania along with the Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology will hold the first Vilnius Innovation Forum ‘Innovation Drift’ in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. Sir Timothy John Berners−Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, who is coming to the Baltic States for the first time, is invited as one of the keynote speakers of the Forum. Moreover, insights on the role of innovation in Europe’s economy will be also shared by business and science innovation leaders from all over Europe.

Sir Tim Berner's Lee made a proposal for information management system in March 1989, and implemented the first successful communication between a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) client and server via the Internet sometime around mid November.
